As with all other tires, the air pressure in the inner twin tire has a direct influence on fuel consumption and tire wear: a reduced pressure of 0.2 bar leads to 1 percent more fuel consumption and reduces the service life of the tire by 10%.
At 0.4 bar under-inflation, fuel consumption increases by 2 percent and tire life is reduced by 30 percent.
0.6 bar under-inflation increases fuel consumption by as much as 4 percent, while the lifespan is reduced by 45 percent. This means that a truck that requires an average of 35 liters of diesel per 100 km and is operated with a tire pressure that is 0.5 bar below the recommended pressure, will consume 875 liters of fuel unnecessarily over a 100,000 km period.
